Sixth grade engineering and design students participated in an engaging and collaborative tower-building activity to see who could build the tallest angel hair pasta tower to support a large marshmallow. The important part of this activity wasn't to successfully build the tallest tower, but rather to demonstrate teamwork, creativity, and to identify at what points they were using in the engineering design process. These skills will help them as they progress through the Future City Competition this fall, where they will imagine, research, design, and build cities of the future that showcase their solution to a citywide sustainability issue.
This activity was particularly exciting to watch, as many of the characteristics of our Portrait of a Graduate could be seen in action. It was a pleasure to see the teams work together and witness them build skills toward becoming resilient problem solvers, creative innovators, authentic leaders, and confident critical thinkers!
