Model UN Club Attends Middle School Model UN Conference

On Saturday, November 15 the Model UN Club attended the Middle School Model UN Conference at Northeastern University. Derby students joined over 600 other delegates from 54 schools to problem-solve issues such as closing the gender gap in STEM careers, improving housing in urban slums, the state of Kosovar Independence, and resolving conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

We're so proud of our students who won awards and received glowing feedback from the judges:

Best Position Papers:

Liv & Elliot (Maldives): "Their paper was excellently formatted and fleshed out. They used great examples and structured their ideas well."

Zara & Henry (Angola): "Angola's paper earned all 4 excellences which is rare, it was beautifully connected with the topic showing the large scope of understanding about girls inequalities in stem."

Kate & Charlotte (Pakistan): "Paper was excellent and included lots of detailed and informative facts and statistics. Also had a really creative and interesting introduction."

Best Negotiator:

Benny & Elsie (Kenya): "Always moving around the room, Kenya exemplified the ability to pull together a team to make real change in the committee under a time crunch of unmods. Moving quickly, the UNBHS paper took form with the backing of some of the most influential countries in the world – but Kenya was not done there, getting its signature on all three papers proposed."

Best Delegate:

Reagan & Sophie (Indonesia): "Amazing command of the room. Whirled together a paper and a working bloc that consistently lead to great collaboration without losing focus on speeches that kept the room focused on the papers and positions that Indonesia most supported."

Congratulations to all the students for a job well done!
