Award Winning Author Torrey Maldonado Visits Campus

On January 29, Derby was thrilled to welcome award-winning author and educator Torrey Maldonado to campus as part of the JoAnn Chandler Mitchell Author Series.

Maldonado lead a dynamic writer’s workshop and engaging assemblies for both Middle and Upper School students. Using humor and empathy, he explored the challenges of identity and navigating the world with confidence and grace. As one fourth grader said, "I really liked that he talks kid language!"

Maldonado also shared with students what inspired him to become an author:

1.) to make the unseen feel seen
2.) to make the unheard feel heard
3.) to make the uncentered feel centered
