Derby Academy was excited to officially welcome new and returning students to campus for the first day of the 2020-2021 academic year on Tuesday, September 1.
With additional health and safety protocol in place this year, Derby’s re-opening plan includes new social distancing guidelines, mask requirements, daily health screenings, changes to the campus layout, and additional flexible learning spaces.
Despite the unusual look to the start of the year, the community was eager to return to campus for in-person learning—just over 170 days had passed since the school transitioned to remote teaching and learning last spring as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Friendly waves and warm welcomes filled the campus with an energy and spirit that marked the start of a most unique school year.
Faculty took the opening day to review and orient students to the new safety guidelines, introduce themselves and classmates, and begin the start of the academic year. The first few opening days will be used to ease students into their schedules, and explore their classrooms and Derby’s campus.
To all our students, faculty, and families—welcome back! We look forward to a wonderful year at Derby!
