Derby at a Glance
All students in grades PK-8 have outdoor recess time at least twice a day.
Our student body is comprised of 350 children in grades PK-8.
Weekly Art Classes
Students attend between 3 and 4 arts classes every week.
Our expansive campus, which includes 14 buildings, 4 playing fields, an outdoor classroom, nature trail, greenhouse and garden, outdoor pavilion, 2 playgrounds, and access to Broad Cove, allows for ample outdoor learning and play.
Specials & Electives
Our students are immersed in innovative and creative specials and electives from arts, sewing, woodworking, library, world languages, engineering and design, and programs like Winter Term and GOALS.
All students have multiple opportunities to experience our public speaking program that begins in Pre-K and builds through to Grade 8.
In 2021–2022, 87% of parents supported our Derby Fund. We are also proud that 100% of our faculty and staff participate in the Derby Fund.
Typical Class Size
Small class sizes allow teachers to develop meaningful connections with students. Classes are capped at 14 in PK and K, and 16 in Grades 1–8.
Nearly ⅓ of our students take advantage of our bus program, which includes stops in Boston, Braintree, Weymouth, Quincy, Scituate, Duxbury, and throughout Hingham.
Our inclusive community is comprised of families from 17 towns throughout the South Shore and into Boston.
More than half of Derby’s faculty and staff hold advanced degrees from respected colleges and universities.
Tuition Assistance Awards
Over $1 million in tuition assistance is awarded to 100% of eligible accepted students each year.
All students in PK-8 experience either PE or Athletics at least twice a week and often up to four times a week.
