Summer Arts is a five week, three week, or two week comprehensive program offered for three age groups:
Summer Arts Seniors is a multi-arts program offered to our oldest campers, ages 8-15. What does multi-arts mean? It means we offer courses in all of the arts: visual art, drama, dance, textiles, media, music and journalism. We also offer culinary arts, STEAM classes and sports.
Our seniors have a daily schedule that includes five classes, lunch, the Noontime Show, and Festival Period (free choice time). The Apprentice Program is offered to 14 & 15 year old campers who would like a leadership position in a few of their classes. *Please note, not all classes are offered to 2-week campers.
Summer Arts Juniors (ages 6 & 7 - full) and Kids (ages 4 & 5 - full), our youngest campers, remain with their set group each day. Activities are tailored for each age group and are designed to stimulate each child’s imagination and to build confidence. Children explore their talents in a supportive and engaging atmosphere, and have plenty of time to enjoy outdoor play on the beautiful Derby Academy campus!

2024 Courses and Information
Registered campers may sign up for their summer 2024 classes beginning on April 1.
Campers create their own schedules (choosing 1st and 2nd choices for each period of the day) and will have the same schedule every day.
A consistent schedule gives our campers confidence and creates predictability for their camp experience.
Campers are emailed their schedules approximately 2 weeks before the program begins.
*Please note, not all classes are offered to 2-week campers.
Program Information by Age Group
What is Festival Period?
Festival Period is our daily free choice period. It falls after the Noontime Show every day. Each Festival period will offer a variety of choices including board games, visual arts, drama, arts and crafts, sports, playground, etc. Our Water Day activities will take place during the Festival Period once a week. Bring a towel and prepare to get wet! (Dry activities offered as well.)
What is the Noontime Show?
Every day from 12:30–1:00 PM the community gathers to enjoy a daily performance in Larson Hall. These include works-in-progress from classes, staff, and student solo performances, occasional guest artists, art parades, cooking demonstrations and more! Families and friends are invited to the shows.
