Students Lend Tech Support

Derby Academy Upper School students visited with residents of the Linden Ponds retirement community in Hingham as part of an ongoing D-Team community outreach event on March 1.

Students in Grades 6-8 shared their expertise and demonstrated how to effectively use iPads, smart phones, and other tech devices with residents.

The students plan to return to the center through the winter and early spring to meet one-on-one with residents, providing additional support and discussing best practices for sending emails, photos, and video to friends and family.

Throughout the year, the D-Team provides community service opportunities among the Derby Academy student body, such as cooking and serving meals at Father Bill’s Homeless Shelter, pairing with Birthday Wishes, an organization that provides birthday parties to homeless children, and recognizing local veterans for their service through a school-wide card-making event.
