Derby thrives today because it has made a commitment to long term investment of its Endowment. Income from over 35 endowment funds support the operating budget, academic awards and prizes, the George S. Terry Library, professional development for faculty, scholarships and more. Some funds are as old as the school itself - Derby still manages the original Hersey Fund, left by Sarah Derby, our founder.
Restricted gifts to Derby’s Endowment are usually received from a donor with a specific purpose in mind, and are approved by the Board of Trustees. These funds come from families, foundations or companies and often support a certain department, scholarship or award.
Unrestricted gifts provide income that supports Derby’s operating fund, which pays for teacher salaries, arts, academics, athletics, buildings and grounds, technology, financial aid and more.
