Model UN Club Earns Praise at Conference

In early February, seventeen students from Derby Academy's Model United Nations Club attended Boston University Academy’s Model United Nations Conference (BUAMUN), earning several high awards.
Joined by 250 other delegates from 15 different middle schools, including students from Canada and Honduras, student-delegates debated important issues ranging from cyber security to artificial intelligence over the course of the two-day conference. Some students also participated in their first-ever "crisis committees," in which students responded to changes and updates to world problems in real-time. 
Derby Academy's delegation did an excellent job creating thoughtful solutions to complicated challenges. At the closing ceremony, six students were recognized for their skills as global diplomats:
Best Delegate- Connor Steele ’20 for his role as the North Sudanese Minister of Defense 
Outstanding Delegate- Trew Strong’19, representing Cape Verde  
Honorable Mention- Max Daniello ’20, representing Equatorial Guinea and Charlotte Wolford ’19, representing the UAE
Best Position Paper- Reese Jensen ’20, representing the African Union
Verbal Commendation - Tanner Burnett’19, representing Morocco 
The best educational choice on the South Shore for Pre-K through Grade 8 education.
