Exceptional schools begin with exceptional people.

The Next 250 Campaign seeks to invest in our teachers of today and tomorrow by increasing faculty compensation, attracting and retaining the best educators, and bolstering professional development.

One Great Teacher Can Change a Whole Life

Our Opportunity

During the 2018 strategic planning process, Derby Academy trustees recognized “excellent teaching” as a core of any quality school. What will it take for Derby to continue to be the school of choice for the best teachers? Moreover, what will keep teachers here? In setting its goals, The Next 250 Campaign leadership recognized this as a leading critical issue for Derby’s future. With an ambitious goal of raising $2 million, Derby remains committed to investing in a cornerstone of its community – our faculty.

What Will Your Gift Do?

Your gift will help to enable Derby to compensate all faculty and staff at levels that appropriately honor their experience, performance, and contributions to the School and its students. Faculty members are learners who continue to grow throughout their careers. By providing teachers with the structure and resources needed to embrace a growth-mindset approach to their teaching, our overall learning community is strengthened. Your gift will enrich professional development, encouraging teachers to invest in their learning and continue to grow as educators. As part of an endowment campaign, your gift will keep giving in perpetuity.

Teachers who spend time developing their teaching skills will become more effective instructors. Investing in the craft of teaching not only positively impacts teaching practices; it also benefits faculty retention.

This is my 26th year of teaching and I’ve seen what Derby can mean in the social and academic lives of our students. It’s such a privilege to watch my students grow in their understanding of history and in their ability to express their ideas through poetry and prose.
