Your participation is about far more than the check you write. It is about coming together as a community to prepare thoughtful and compassionate children to become tomorrow’s leaders.
Derby thrives today because it has made a commitment to long term investment of its Endowment. Income from over 35 endowment funds support the operating budget, academic awards and prizes, the George S. Terry Library, professional development for faculty, scholarships, and more. Some funds are as old as the School itself – Derby still manages the original Hersey Fund, left by our founder, Sarah Derby.
Restricted gifts to Derby’s Endowment are usually received from a donor with a specific purpose in mind, and are approved by the Board of Trustees. These funds come from families, foundations, or companies, and often support a certain department, scholarship, or award.
Unrestricted gifts provide income that supports Derby’s operating fund, which pays for teacher salaries, arts, academics, athletics, buildings and grounds, technology, financial aid, and more.
