Derby Academy offers several one-week specialty programs, designed to be exciting, educational and fun! We invite you to enjoy our excellent facilities and activities, under the direction of an experienced and creative professional staff.

Nike basketball camps are geared for all ages and abilities. All campers are expected to work very hard, be receptive to coaching, exhibit discipline, a strong work ethic, and be serious about basketball. As a staff we pride ourselves in being teaching camp first, campers are expected to learn and exhibit certain skills throughout the week.

Day Trippers
The Daytrippers will travel to five exciting destinations!  The campers will participate in a new activity each day, such as Bobby's Ranch in Westford for horseback riding, Starland Sports in Hanover, the New England Aquarium in Boston, Canobie Lake Park in Salem, NH, and the Franklin Park Zoo in Boston. Have some fun adventures and meet some new friends!  The program tuition includes transportation, admission fees and special treats.  Campers should bring a nut-free lunch each day.

8–12  JULY 27–July 31 @8AM–3PM $500
Game Design Creation 
Calling all product engineers and game designers! Create a one of a kind, heirloom, tabletop game using the innovative design tools and fabrication materials· in our Makerspace. Conceptualize, prototype, playtest and iterate your own personal tabletop game design, or choose to iterate an old favorite by adding your own design flair. Campers will have access to multiple 30 printers, a laser cutter, CAD vinyl and paper cutter, shop tools, circuitry station, and a table full of card stock, paper, and access to the laminating machine to fully fabricate their product. Family game night will never be the same!

10-15  JULY 6–10 @ 9AM-12PM $400
Imagine, invent, design, tinker and make - come learn how to use the innovative design tools in Derby's Makerspace! Jewelry, fidgets, light up fashion and problem solving gadgets are among the creations that are possible in this week long camp. Experience the intersection of science, technology, engineering, math and the arts while creating with our vinyl cutter, 3D printer, laser cutter, and circuitry station. .

8–12  JULY 13–17 @ 9AM-12PM $400
Gone Fishing teaches campers the basics of fishing, such as setting up a rod and reel, baiting the hook, casting and handling the fish. We will travel to a new fishing hole every day. Fishing equipment is included. Campers should bring a bag lunch each day.

8–15  JULY 27–JULY 31  @ 8:30AM–12:30PM $450
Have you ever wanted to design and make your own clothes? In this course, you’ll learn how to sew on the machine while creating fun, practical projects. We will make quilted pillows and move on to making tote bags and stuffed animals. Once you’ve mastered some basic skills, you will make your own creations such as a pair of shorts or a skirt. Campers should bring their own lunch each day. 

8–12  JULY 27–JULY 31 @ 9AM–2PM $450
Younger campers will participate in a variety of activities such as creative drama, arts and crafts, outdoor play and cooking projects. We will also make use of Derby’s gym to play non-competitive sports and imaginative games. We will make and decorate cookies, build giant forts, and act out our favorite stories. The creative input of each child will be encouraged. Join us for some old-fashioned fun with a large dose of imagination!  

5–8  JULY 27–JULY 31  @9AM–2PM $450
In this six-day camp students will study acting, voice and dance as they explore the world of Musical Theatre. Using improvisational theatre techniques, they will work on the development of vocal, movement, and characterization skills and to trust their creative instincts. Vocal workshops will focus on teaching students about breathing, pitch, phrasing and vocal tone. There will be an opportunity to work on scripted scenes and musical numbers from popular Broadway musicals. If you love the performing arts, this is the camp for you! Campers should bring a bag lunch. The workshop will conclude on Saturday, August 1, with a performance.

11–16  JULY 27–AUG 1 @ 9AM–3PM $600 
From Roomba to "Wall-E," robots are becoming a part of our everyday lives. This hands-on course will challenge students to learn about robot construction, programming, and control. Working in small teams (age divided), you will design and build small robots (using the Lego Mindstorms Nxt kit). Then you’ll program and control them through tests of various practical, real-life applications. The course will culminate in the Derby Summer Fun Robot Face Off – may the best bot win! Campers should bring a bag lunch.

8–15  JULY 27–JULY 31 @ 9AM–2PM $450
During this week students will experiment with a variety of visual arts, including clay, painting, and collage. Independence is encouraged, but children will receive plenty of individual attention as they create their individual art projects. Campers should bring a bag lunch. Be ready to roll up your sleeves and create!

8–12  JULY 27–JULY 31 @9AM–2PM $450

Why be merely a consumer of technology when you can create!  This is your opportunity to design and develop an Android app using MIT App Inventor.  After an introduction to App Inventor and mobile computing, you will work in small groups to build your own apps. The week culminates with campers collaborating in small groups to brainstorm an app concept, prototype their concept and build a working app.
