Grade 5

In Grade 5, students begin an exciting new chapter as they "stretch their wings" and step into their roles as the newest members of our Middle School community. In this supportive, relational environment, students build the essential self-advocacy, organization, and study skills that empower them to become independent and collaborative learners.
Our curriculum encourages students to gain a global perspective and view the world through an inclusive lens, culminating in the signature International Studies Look and Learn showcase. While we introduce greater academic challenges—including revitalized STEM offerings and a bolstered sports program—we remain committed to the "Derby Difference." This means nurturing the whole child through a balance of rigorous inquiry and the joy of being young, ensuring every student has at least two recesses a day and feels truly known, trusted, and celebrated.
