Kindergarten
Our joyful Kindergarten program nurtures curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning in our young students.
Warm, engaging classroom spaces and small class sizes (average of 15 students) allow teachers to know each child well and support their emotional, academic, and creative growth. Through a full-day, child-centered experience, students build strong foundations in literacy, mathematics, and inquiry while learning to collaborate, solve problems, and express themselves.
Kindergarten Academics
Literacy
Kindergarteners benefit from a structured literacy approach that includes shared reading, multisensory phonemic awareness and phonics instruction, writing workshops, word study, and controlled reading practice in small groups. Classroom teachers partner with reading specialists to provide targeted instruction and personalized support.
Math
Hands-on math lessons grounded in the Bridges in Mathematics curriculum help students explore number sense, 1:1 correspondence, patterning, addition, and subtraction through games, manipulatives, and real world problem solving. Students practice being mathematicians through small group lessons and math games that reinforce concepts.
Specials
Specialist classes in Spanish, art, library, physical education, and music enrich each week, giving Kindergarten students a well-rounded school experience. Cross-grade connections, including our Pals program with Grade 4, foster friendships, mentorship, and leadership as students work together on special projects and explorations throughout the year.
Thematic Units
Each year, our Kindergarten teachers lead our students through four creative and exciting thematic units. Each thematic unit culminates in a learning celebration where families are invited to see how Kindergarteners have grown as thinkers, creators, and community members.
Farm & Food
Children investigate where food comes from, explore life on farms, and celebrate their learning through cooking, storytelling, and art-based projects.
PALEONTOLOGY
Young scientists become paleontologists as they study fossils, learn dinosaur facts, and share their discoveries through models, hands-on projects, dramatic play, and simple research.
SPACE
Astronauts in training wonder about the sun, moon, and stars, design simple models of the solar system, and bring their questions to life through stories, songs, and creative projects.
OCEANS & SEA LIFE
Children dive into ocean habitats, learn about sea creatures, and showcase their understanding through collaborative murals, performances, and a joyful learning celebration.
