Library
The George S. Terry Library for Middle and Upper School students is located in Sarah Derby Hall.  The collection is comprised of over 10,000 books, periodicals, and non-print materials. As well, the library has computer laptops for student use.  The Lower School Library, housed in the Lower School, has a collection of approximately 6,000 items. The collection is curriculum centered, with the purpose of enriching the classroom experience in the Lower School and at the Middle and Upper School levels. It can be accessed through an online catalog in the libraries and from all classroom computers. In addition to in-house materials, library users have access to area public libraries' catalogs through the Old Colony Library Network and the databases of the Southeastern Massachusetts Regional Library System.

The mission of the George S. Terry Library and the Lower School Library at Derby Academy is to sustain and nourish the curriculum of the school. This is accomplished by:

• developing a collection of materials in all formats to support the curriculum for independent study and recreational reading
• planning with teachers to create opportunities for students to become effective users of ideas and information
• providing attractive and friendly facilities that serve as a catalyst for the intellectual life of the school

Each library is an integral element of the curriculum. Classes for younger students promote a love of books and reading. Older students learn to access and evaluate information resources as part of the research process for classroom assignments. Fifth graders complete a one-semester, graded course in the basic sources of independent research.
