Learning at Derby
Derby Academy is a unique learning community that is steeped in traditional values while focused on the most effective and proven teaching methods. The school’s educational philosophy is as valid for the rigors of the 21st century as it was at its founding in the 1700’s: Improve both mind and heart.
Derby places equal emphasis on building a strong academic foundation for success and on developing strength of character that fosters such success.
As students move through the 10 grade years at Derby they benefit from consistency and coordination between the Lower School (Prekindergarten through Grade 3), the Middle School (Grades 4 through 6), and the Upper School (Grades 7 and 8). Academic, artistic, athletic and extracurricular programs nurture an abiding sense of personal values and ethical behavior, enabling them to mature into well-rounded individuals.
