Lower School students actively explore social studies through oral presentations, debates, art projects, drama, music, technology and games. Our younger learners begin to understand what life was like for people in previous generations and that much has developed and changed. They make connections to the past by learning about their own families and communities as well as their state and country.
In Grades 1-3 (and Grades 4-5 in the Middle School), the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) challenges students with more in-depth learning tasks providing a cross-curricular, thematic and rigorous program. This curriculum is designed to engage children in environmental issues, physical and cultural geography around the world, inventions, explorers and exploration, economics and trade, as well as global artistic contributions.
We want our young scholars to be able to relate to people who have backgrounds and experiences different from their own. We hope to instill in them an appreciation for the importance of caring about others as well as themselves. Our curriculum brings forth these questions: how can I be a responsible and productive member of my school, neighborhood and greater society; how can I truly make a difference?
